Heading for Gothenburg, the west coast or Stockholm? Then the better way into Sweden is often not the bridge but the 20 minute ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg: less driving, no Copenhagen ring road, and Scandlines sells it together with Puttgarden Rødby as one combination ticket. We took the Helsingborg to Helsingør ferry on the way home ourselves, and below are the fares, the sums against the bridge and how a two-ferry day works.

What the combination ticket costs
One way, car up to 6 metres with up to 9 people, as listed on scandlines.com on 22 September 2026. These are “from” fares; the booking shows the price for your date.

Booked separately you would pay Scandlines 61.10 € for a Standard crossing and the Helsingør Helsingborg operator its own fare; the combination is usually the cheaper and always the simpler way, because both crossings sit in one booking with one confirmation. There is no Low Price and no Flex version of this combination, and a return is two single tickets.

The day has three legs. Puttgarden to Rødby on the Scandlines ferry, 45 minutes. Then about 200 kilometres and two hours ten on the E47 and E55 up through Lolland, Falster and Zealand, past Køge and Copenhagen’s western edge to Helsingør at the top of the Øresund. Then the second ferry: Helsingør to Helsingborg, 20 minutes across the narrowest point of the sound, with departures every 15 to 20 minutes for most of the day, so you rarely wait long. The Øresund ferries are run by Öresundslinjen, until 2024 called ForSea, and two of the ships are battery-electric.
Off the second ferry in Helsingborg you are straight onto the E6 north to Gothenburg or the E4 towards Jönköping and Stockholm, and the Copenhagen ring road never gets a look in. Rødby to Gothenburg this way is about 420 kilometres; via the bridge and Malmö it is about 460.

How the two-ferry ticket works in practice
- One booking, two crossings. You pick the Puttgarden Rødby departure; the Øresund crossing is open within a window around it, which the booking confirmation states. You do not book a specific Helsingør Helsingborg departure, you simply drive to the port and take the next ferry.
- Check-in in Helsingør. Show the Scandlines confirmation at the Öresundslinjen check-in. Arrive a little before a departure and you are on it; the ferries load quickly.
- Changes. Standard rules: the next Puttgarden Rødby sailing with space on the same day is free, another day costs a fee plus any difference. See cancelling or changing a ticket.
- On the way home. Book the reverse combination: Helsingborg Helsingør first, then Rødby Puttgarden. Two single tickets, no return discount.

Do I have to book a departure time for the Helsingør Helsingborg ferry?
No. Your crossing is valid within a window around your Puttgarden Rødby departure, and you take the next Øresund ferry when you arrive in Helsingør. They sail every 15 to 20 minutes for most of the day.
Is the ferry combination cheaper than the bridge combination?
By 1.50 euros at the September 2026 fares: 99.75 € against 101.25 €. Choose by destination, not by price.
How long is the whole trip from Puttgarden to Helsingborg?
About three and a half hours: 45 minutes ferry, two hours ten of driving, a short wait and 20 minutes across the sound.
Can I get this combination as Flex?
No. Flex exists only for the combination with the Øresund Bridge.
