Which ticket suits your trip
Our own experience: we crossed from Puttgarden to Rødby on an afternoon in February 2025. The lanes were half empty and the ferry left on time.
What the conditions say: according to Scandlines, Low Price is only valid for the booked departure; switching to another sailing is not included, not even on a quiet day. If your departure time is fixed and you have time to spare, Low Price is good value. On a Friday in July, or with a long drive behind you, Standard gives you more room: you take another departure with space on the same day, usually within the hour.
What the car fare includes
- One car up to 6 metres long, with up to 9 people on board
- Longer vehicles, trailers and caravans pay a length surcharge that Scandlines shows in the booking once you enter the real length
- Motorbikes have their own, cheaper fares
- Flex tickets add priority boarding
Passengers travelling in the car are not charged separately, so a full car is the cheapest way to cross per person. A car with two adults on a Low Price ticket works out from 24 euros each, one way.
Foot passengers, bikes and motorbikes
Without a car the crossing is almost pocket money. Scandlines sells a 1-day ticket for foot passengers from 11 euros return (scandlines.com, 28 September 2026). A bike costs 3 euros extra. The ticket is valid for the outward and return crossing on the booked calendar day. In Puttgarden foot passengers walk over the footbridge to the terminal; the Scandlines ticket kiosk stands at the check-in area if you have not booked.
A motorbike costs from 31.70 euros one way for up to three people, or 57 euros for a same-day return.
Online or at the harbour: the difference is real
Scandlines runs two price lists, one for the website and one for the port, and the gap between them can be large. On 28 September 2026 a Standard car ticket cost from 61.10 euros online and from 111 euros at the harbour. The online “from” price is the early-booker price: it needs booking at least three days before departure, and only a limited number of tickets get it. At the manned lane or through customer service a handling fee from 15 euros can be added. Low Price and Easy Return are not sold at the harbour at all.

So even if you decide on the day, compare the online price with the harbour price before you set off. Online and in the app you can book up to two hours before departure, without the handling fee of the manned lane. The booths themselves read your booking code or your licence plate; the kiosk sells tickets at the harbour price.
Going on to Sweden: combination tickets
If Denmark is only the middle part of your trip, Scandlines sells the Puttgarden Rødby crossing together with the Øresund Bridge or the Helsingør Helsingborg ferry in one booking. On 22 September 2026 the combinations started at 101.25 euros for Standard plus the bridge, 166 euros for Flex plus the bridge and 99.75 euros for Standard plus the Helsingør Helsingborg ferry, one way for a car. Motorbikes pay from 48 euros with the bridge and 46.50 euros with the ferry. We drove both ways on our trip: the bridge from Copenhagen to Malmö on the way out, the Helsingborg to Helsingør ferry on the way back.

How to pay less for the Puttgarden Rødby ferry
- Book online, and early. Booking online ahead is usually cheaper than the harbour. The lowest Standard price needs booking at least three days before departure; on the day itself the online price can come close to the harbour price.
- Look at the quiet departures. Low Price is limited per departure and easier to find off-peak. Use the timetable to find them.
- Out and back the same day? The 1-day ticket from 72 euros beats two Standard tickets.
- Weekend away? The weekend ticket from 93 euros is cheaper than two Standard tickets, if you go Friday and return Sunday.
- Fill the car. The fare covers up to 9 people.
- Only pay for flexibility you need. With a ferry about every 40 minutes by day, Standard already gives you a lot of room.

Price calendar: which days are cheap, which are expensive
Scandlines works with fixed fare levels per day. We sample the booking about once a week for the next four months and colour each day by its level (recognisable by the Flex fare, which is fixed per level). Standard has two prices per level: the early-booker fare for bookings 3 or more days ahead with a limited quota, and the regular online fare once that quota is gone. Is a return ticket cheaper than two singles?
